In a recent episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Modern Family’s Ed O’Neill discussed his role in Finding Dory and an awkward super-fan moment at LAX airport.
After discussing his role as Hank the octopus, Ellen questioned Ed about a fan photo that surfaced on Twitter, to which he immediately appeared embarrassed.
Ed recalled, “I was at LAX, was waiting for my flight to board, and I saw a woman approaching me so I just flopped that Modern Family hat on, and she said, ‘Mr O’Neill, I love Modern Family, and you’re my favourite on the show’.
“And I was like, ‘I’m the only one here!’ ‘Could you please, I know you’re in a hurry’ – [she] couldn’t have been nicer – so she sat there and we took it, and I said, ‘Have a nice trip!’
Ed’s manager later contacted him about a picture he had seen doing the rounds on Twitter.
The super fan that approached Ed was in fact Britney Spears. O’Neill never recognised who she was at the airport, he just told her to sit on the arm of the chair for the photo. Ed added, “Look at the look on my face – do I look like I’m sitting with Britney Spears?!”
O’Neill plays Hank the octopus in Finding Dory. Ellen, who plays Dory in the same movie, questions Ed about his experience working for Pixar. Whilst Ed and Ellen’s on screen characters spend a lot of time together, Ed revealed that a lot of his time at Pixar was spent alone in a glass booth. Watch the full interview below.
