Teenagers of the 80s, brace yourselves – the Brat Pack could be getting back together for a long-awaited sequel to the coming-of-age classic St Elmo’s Fire.
Forty years after the film catapulted stars like Rob Lowe, Demi Moore and Emilio Estevez to superstardom, Rob has promised fans that a follow-up film is finally on the way.
“We’re putting together St Elmo’s Fire 2,” the actor said during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, adding, “I’m dead serious. We’re gonna see what those people are doing at our ages now. This is a real thing.”

What is St Elmo’s Fire about?
In case you haven’t revisited the cult-classic film, the 1985 flick followed tight-knit college friends Alec, Billy, Jules, Kevin, Kirby, Leslie, and Wendy, played by iconic 80s stars Judd Nelson, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, and Mare Winningham, as they struggled to make it the transition from their adolescence into in the real, adult world after their graduation.
Set largely within the confines of their favourite college hangout, St Elmo’s Bar, the film follows the awkwardness, emotion, and angst of a classic coming-of-age story – making it one of the most standout movies of the Brat Pack era.
Ahead of the film’s release, three of the St Elmo’s crew, Emilio, Judd, and Ally, had also worked together on another classic 80s film, The Breakfast Club, which quickly secured their status as members of the Brat Pack – a group of young, successful Hollywood actors that dominated the coming-of-age genre throughout the decade.
Will there be a St Elmo’s Fire 2?
In good news for fans of the original movie, Rob Lowe has confirmed that work is definitely underway on the St Elmo’s Fire sequel.
According to celebrity gossip site Deuxmoi, the actor joked about the upcoming project during a production company conference, quipping to the crowd, “I’m here to tell you there will be 60-year-old sex.”
His former co-star Demi Moore has also given hope to Brat Pack fans after revealing she’d had “a couple of sit-down meetings” with studio bosses about the project, though the other original cast members are yet to be confirmed for the film.
“I think it would be great if we can come up with a story that I think holds up because you never want to diminish [the story],” she told Entertainment Weekly in September 2024.
“I think, yes. For the most part, my understanding is that so far, everyone is pretty much open and on board. We’ll see, but, yes!”
