English actress Natalie Dormer was the toast of the Women In Film cocktail party at the Chateau Marmont in LA last night, named this year’s Max Mara Face of the Future.

“It’s always wonderful to be acknowledged when you throw your life into your job out of passion and dedication,” Dormer, 34, tells WHO and adds with a laugh, “It’s nice — now and then you realise people have noticed that!”

Dormer, who stars on Game of Thrones as the politically astute Margaery Tyrell, joins past honorees such as Rose Byrne, Zoe Saldana and Emily Blunt in receiving the award, given by fashion label Max Mara and the non-profit foundation Women in Film, which promotes equal opportunity in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

“They’ve helped women educationally,” actress Blythe Danner tells WHO. “They have great programs and I think it shines a light on women being perfectly able and extremely good at what they do.”

In regards to her own style, which favours designers such as Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and the Max Mara pantsuit she chose for the evening, Dormer says, “I like fine tailoring that has a bit of an edge to it. My natural style would be sort of feminine, elegant, but, I don’t know if it’s because I’m a Londoner or just because I’m an actor, but with like a slight twist, so I feel like Max Mara does that.”

As for her GoT alter-ego Margaery, last seen with a seeming personality shift towards religious faith, Dormer says, “Is it real or is not real? That is the question. Does she mean it or does she not mean it? So I don’t know. Judging from the last episode, it looks like maybe she doesn’t mean it.”

Dormer adds she’s enjoyed growing along with Margaery. “She’s made of strong stuff,” Dormer says. “She’s really against it this season. It’s going to be very, very hard to get out of this situation, but that may be all the more spectacular when she does.”

In Darkness, a revenge thriller that also features event attendee Emily Ratajkowski in the cast, will be Dormer’s next project. “I go into principal photography in a couple of months time with my fiancé and my director and my co-writer Anthony Byrne in London,” she says, “so that’s my first foray into writing, so that will be a very interesting adventure for me.”
