After the unprecedented success of Bird Box, Netflix is gearing up to release another post-apocalyptic thriller.
Over the weekend, the streaming giant dropped the first trailer for their new movie, The Silence, and unlike Bird Box, you can actually see the monsters, which, judging by the first clip, are these hideously large bats.
Weird, I know… But just go with it.
The synopsis (which sounds a lot like last year’s hit flick, A Quiet Place) reads:
“When the world is under attack from terrifying creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, 16-year old Ally Andrews, who lost her hearing at 13, and her family seek refuge in a remote haven. But they discover a sinister cult who are eager to exploit Ally’s heightened senses. The Silence is directed by John R. Leonetti and stars Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter and Kyle Breitkopf.”

Based on Tim Lebbon’s novel of the same name and brought to you by John R. Leonette— the genius who helmed Annabelle — the successful director has enlisted Kiernan Shipka (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada) to take on the lead roles.
“I’ve done sci-fi movies like Transformers, but I’ve never done anything quite like this,” Tucci said of why he decided to take on the role. “The Silence is a combination of horror, thriller, and drama. I liked how sparse the writing was; a lot of it is without words which allows John to do really interesting things visually as a director, and for us actors to communicate in other ways.”
While the plot seems pretty far fetched, Tucci says the movie will definitely appeal to avid horror lovers.
“There’s a believability to how fast the world gets turned upside down,” the actor explained. “I like the family’s dynamic, and that they’re living this normal, everyday existence when suddenly these horrible circumstances bring them together. They become very different people.”
The Silence arrives on Netflix on April 10.
