She has never publicly addressed the mysterious disappearance of her boyfriend Patrick McDermott, who vanished in June 2005 while on an overnight fishing trip off the coast of San Pedro, California.

However, Olivia Newton John opened up about the loss of her lover for the first time on Sunday night’s 60 Minutes.

The 67-year-old singer said she explicitly refuses to believe that McDermott faked his own death, after reports had emerged earlier this year that he was alive and living in Mexico.

“It was very hard, he was lost at sea and nobody really knows what happened,” she told reporter Karl Stefanovic.

Newton-John revealed that she does still think about the disappearance, which occurred more than a decade ago, but doesn’t allow it to consumer her life anymore.

“It’s human to wonder,” she explained. “Those are the things in life you have to accept and let go.”

Adding: “Because whenever you go through difficult times there’s always those concerns. But you know, I live on, and of course questions come up, that’s human.”

The Grease star had been dating McDermott for nine years, but had split just months before he vanished.
