Mescal will be joined by Connie Nielsen, who starred in the original movie opposite our very own original gladiator Russell Crowe, and Fred Hechinger, who stars as Emperor Caracalla.

The trio will introduce the movie to fans at the Australian premiere at the Darling Harbour Theatre, ICC Sydney on Wednesday, October 30.

According to the synopsis, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus (Crowe) at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.

The movie trailers already released tease epic fight scenes between Mescal and co-star Pedro Pascal, who sadly won’t be joining for the trip to Oz.
