Thankfully, there are a few simple things you can do to spruce up your soiree. We spoke to Jackie Fazekas, founder of homewares brand Fazeek, who shares tips on how to create a memorable dining experience your guests will love.
Get creative with colour
Gone are the days of minimalistic table decor – mismatched pieces and vibrant bursts of colour can bring excitement to your table!
“I love bringing in different colours, heights, shapes and sizes to the serving pieces on my dining table,” says Fazekas. “I’ve designed our new dining range so that the pieces can be mixed and matched – in particular I love playing around with our wave bowls and plates for olives, chips, dips and desserts.”

Deck your table with dinner candles
“Candles are an easy and inexpensive way to add atmosphere to your events,” says Fazekas.
“I recommend choosing unscented dinner candles, as candles with their own fragrance may detract from the delicious aromas coming from your kitchen.”

Refreshments at the ready
“Champagne on arrival is a must!” says Fazekas.
“A glass of sparkling when guests first arrive sets the tone for a fun night ahead.” It’s always a good idea to have a range of drink options available, including some non-alcoholic beverages to ensure all your guests are catered for.
Setting up a cocktail or mocktail bar with some seasonal garnishes such as dried orange slices or cinnamon sticks can give your party an instant holiday spruce up. When it comes to water, “add some lemon and lime slices – water (and your serving vessel) don’t need to be boring!” says Fazekas.

Scent the Scene
Don’t underestimate the power of a holiday fragrance to set the mood for your event.
“I want to create special moments in all the places my guests may go – an oil burner with an essential oil in the bathroom, or an incense cone lit at the entrance to my home,” says Fazekas. “I want my guests to feel transported somewhere special from the moment they step inside.”

Make a Statement
“Bringing in a statement piece to your dining table will get the conversation going and add a little drama – of the good kind!” For a bit of festive fun, Fazekas recommends filling a bowl with Christmas bon bons as a seasonal centrepiece your guests will adore.
