Chelsy Davy dated Prince Harry on and off for seven years, and while she’s always remained tightlipped about the romance in the past, she’s now lifting the lid on her royal romance.

Zimbabwean-born Davy, 30, opened up about her time with Harry, 31, to U.K. newspaper The Times, saying she “couldn’t cope” with the intense media scrutiny: “It was so full-on—crazy and scary and uncomfortable,” she said. “I found it very difficult when it was bad.”

Davy said her “normal” upbringing made it difficult for her to handle the constant attention and admitted she retreated back to her native Africa to escape the pressure after the pair broke up in 2010.

“It was nuts,” she said. “Now it’s calm, it’s fine.”

It seems the pair have been able to put their split behind them and remain amicable, with Davy explaining she and Harry “will always be good friends.”

The lawyer-turned-accessories designer met the young prince as a teenager at Cheltenham, and later sparked up a romance in Africa during Harry’s gap year in 2004.

While the royal isn’t reuniting with Davy, on June 28 he met up with another old friend—a boy he first took under his wing as a four-year-old orphan.

Now 16, Relebohile ‘Mutsu’ Potsane and 11 of his friends were surprised by Harry during their first trip to London.

Mutsu first met the royal, who was 19 at the time, in 2004 when he visited Africa’s Lesotho the same year he met Davy.
