The Real Housewives often accuse each other of having one too many proverbial skeletons in the closest, often at champagne-fuelled functions where their secrets eventually come spilling out.
But for Garcelle Beauvais, who stars in the Beverly Hills franchise of the hit reality series, she knows exactly which one of her co-stars to call if she ever had to dispose of a literal dead body.
We caught up with Garcelle and Meredith Marks, from Salt Lake City, to hear all about the love – and drama – they share with their co-stars.
Ladies, which of your co-stars would you most like to take on a fun girls-only weekend to Las Vegas?
Garcelle: Sutton [Stracke] or Kyle [Richards]as they are a lot of fun and love to have a great time.
Meredith: I don’t think I’d take anyone from my franchise as we already had a negative experience in Las Vegas! But if I could take anyone within the Housewives world, it would be Dolores [Catania]. She’s been a nice friend and I know we’d have lots of fun without it getting too crazy!
And who would you call if you needed to be bailed out of jail?
Garcelle: Sutton, for sure. I know she’d turn up and bring a nice fat bank cheque to help.
If you could have any past or present Housewife come and star on your show, who would it be?
Garcelle: I think I’d do a cartwheel out of excitement if Denise Richards ever came back. It’s a tall order but would be really cool.
Meredith: I really have no idea just because there is such a dynamic shift when a new person comes in, even Jennie [Nguyen] joining our cast in Season 2 was a big change.
You both always look so amazing. What are your secrets to looking so youthful?
Meredith: My number one tip is to stay out of the sun. Then it’s just taking care of your skin, removing makeup every night and then using a good moisturiser and serum. A little bit of botox is also great.
Garcelle: It’s all in the genes, thanks Mum and Dad! I really think your spirit dictates how you look. I feel youthful and don’t pay attention to my age and it shows.
How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your latest season?
Garcelle: We got tested a lot. We took tests on a Wednesday and worked Friday, then found out some of the ladies [Richards, Kathy Hilton and Dorit Kemsley] were positive. It was really scary. I went into quarantine by myself, so I couldn’t pass it onto my children if I had it and wound up spending my birthday and Thanksgiving alone. It’s what you have to do though to make sure everyone is safe.
Meredith: We shut down production for two days after a crew member got a false positive, so we were very lucky. The biggest way we were affected was our events, which had to be quite small. We were tested so often and knew we had this group of people to hang around, and it was safe. It was a blessing as we weren’t as isolated as many other people had to be.
Meredith, do you think people are surprised by how much drama you have in Salt Lake City compared to the other franchises?
I think there was a low expectation for our series among the general public. But we have a lot going on, not just drama but Jen Shah’s arrest [for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering] and real cultural elements at play. It took a while to get some traction, but people have watched it on replay and are loving it.
