Season 10 of Married At First Sight Australia began with one very strong couple, who fans truly believed would make it throughout the season. And although Cam and Lyndall did make it through the whole experiment – they sure weren’t a success.
From happy beginnings to rumours of an affair and a brutal final vow, we look back at Cam and Lyndall’s bumpy time on season ten of MAFS.
The Wedding & Honeymoon
Our first episode of the season introduced us to two very different couples, Lyndall and Cameron, and Harrison and Bronte.
And it’s not just the romantic soundtrack they played for every scene of Lyndall and Cameron’s screen time, the pair really did seem incredibly happy on their wedding day.
The first episode saw the two 27-year-olds get married and then get to know each other, and as far as first impressions go, the two hit it off!
Cam, a carpenter from Darwin with no previous relationship experience married Lyndall, an accountant from Perth who has a new outlook on life thanks to new Cystic Fibrosis medicine that has drastically improved her life expectancy.
The experts paired the couple up as they believed Lyndall and Cameron had similar outlooks on life and were both ready to take the next serious step towards a relationship.
And so far it looks like the experts were spot on! The couple had a ball at their wedding, with Cam seriously not being able to wipe the grin off his face the entire ceremony.
The pair shared a cheeky sense of humour; with Cam tricking everyone into thinking he had a baby during his vows (he was actually talking about his dog) and Lyndall’s vows including the direct quote, “I’m not here to f**k spiders.”
It’s not just their shared humour making them perfect for each other either! Cam and Lyndall also bonded over their love of seafood and Red Thai Curry – which truly is the beginning of what we hope is a long and steady relationship.
The couple’s parents and friends were also loving the match, with Lyndall’s dad explaining he had “a good gut feeling” about it. So wholesome. So cute. And so very drama free.
The Second Dinner Party
Confessions Week and Intamacy Week saw this couple pass with flying colours! Lyndall and Cam quickly cemented themselves as one of the strongest couples of the season – until the second dinner party that is.
The couple got into their first disagreement thanks to the drama of other contestants, with Lyndall wanting to share info on what she saw Shannon up to, whilst Cam wanted them to “stay in their own lane.”
Intimacy and Affection
By the third commitment ceremony, the couple had hit a rough patch. The pair shared with the group how Cam’s refusal to hug Lyndall during a moment in the week caused a rift between the two.
“Hugging shouldn’t feel unnatural, it shouldn’t feel weird….am I that awful, and repulsive that you didn’t want to hug me when I was upset?” questioned Lyndall, before the experts agreed that Cam needs to work towards showing more affection.
Whilst the pair continued to try and make their relationship work, Cam’s lack of affection and his remote work has continued to drive a wedge in the couple’s happily-ever-after.
Cam’s demanding job adds relationship pressure
As we near the end of the season, Cam and Lyndall’s relationship continues to sway.
Whilst they have put (most) of their issues behind them, the realities of Cam’s job add a new complexity to life after the experiment.
Revealing that he is not ready to walk away from his job, Cam shares that he needs a long-distance relationship that can survive months of no-contact.
When revealing the news, he tells the group that he had initially said he would move away from the Northern Territory for love, leaving Lyndall devastated to learn that she’s not that person.
Finals Vows
As the couple neared their final vows ceremony, it was clear Cam had already made his decision.
“I just don’t think Lyndall is going to fit into my life,” he told the cameras.
“If I was falling in love – then there would be a lot of things to weigh up, but I’m just not feeling that way so there’s not really that much to weigh up, to tell you the truth.”
When questioned about how long he took to make the decision to end their relationship at the final vows, he explained he spent “about ten minutes.”
“I don’t miss Lyndall – that’s the hard truth.”
Whilst Cam knew that he was ending the relationship, it’s clear he didn’t expect Lyndall to do the same, and it was not pretty.
Going first, Lyndall listed to Cam all the faults in their relationship.
“I constantly had to beg for a shred of affection, your time, affection, your support,” listed Lyndall.
“I drove myself insane trying to work out how to be the partner you wanted…I worked out I could never be the partner you wanted because you simply do not want one.”
“This entire relationship has been on your terms and your terms alone,” she continued.
“So to put it plainly. Stay in your lane and I’ll stay in mine.”
Before Cam began his speech, Lyndall interrupted him, telling him, ” I just feel like no matter what you say today it’s only going to disappoint me again. And I think I’m just done.” To which Cam threw his speech on the floor and stormed off, seemingly proving Lyndall’s point that he struggled to have difficult conversations.
Happily Ever After…or Not
Whilst they may have officially ended their relationship during the final vows, it was clear to many fans this couple would go their separate ways thanks to a few leaked spoilers.
Daily Mail revealed the surprising news that Lyndall and Josh (yes, that Josh!) had gotten together after filming ended in December.
“Josh and Lyndall were secretly hooking up for weeks,” a participant told the publication. “Things started when he told her he really liked her and felt like kissing her, and she said, ‘Well, go on then’.
There have also been some sneaky rumours surrounding Tayla and Cam.
Finale
The final episode of season ten, saw the experts grill Cameron. From the get-go, he was dismissive, explaining that the experiment saw him feel “pressured” to show affection.
When asked about the relationship between himself and Tayla, Cam continued to deflect. Explaining that “there’s nothing going on there,” he added that they were just “mates.”
But Tayla had a different answer. When asked how she would describe her relationship with Cam, she explained; “I really like Cam as a friend, we get along really, really well… there’s not much to it, he’s up in darwin. I’m down in tassie.”
“It hasn’t been explored yet,” she continued before clarifying that “it’s not going to be explored.”
The experts also called out Cam’s “casual” attitude, labelling him as “dismissive.” And whilst he attempted to apologise, Lyndall had a final “lesson” for him.
“Do better…be better, have some integrity.”
Moving On
Just weeks after the series wrapped up, it looks like Cam is moving on. Whilst many expected he would kick off a new relationship with MAFS‘ contestant Tayla – it seems like they really were telling the truth during the final and were just friends.
Now, he’s posted a series of photos with a mystery woman alongside the caption; “Weekends off are done better with you.”
Cam confirmed with Daily Mail Australia that he had been dating his new girlfriend, Cheyanne, for four months.
“She is absolutely stunning… She is a keeper,” he told the publication.
“Lyndall told me to do better and I tell you what, it was the only bit of advice I took from her,” he added.
He previously told 9Entertainment that he met his current girlfriend at an after-work party in Darwin, adding that the pair planed to go travelling together later in the year.
Married At First Sight Australia airs Monday to Wednesday, 7:30pm, and Sunday, 7pm, on Nine Network and 9Now.
