Do you ever feel like you just keep making the same mistakes over and over again in relationships?
WATCH: Natasha’s not convinced Mikey’s the guy for her!
Married At First Sight bride Natasha Spencer gets it.
“I’m scared to make my own decisions about who to love,” reveals the 26-year-old, who admits she’s fallen into the habit of dating older men.
And we mean much older.
Like, twice her age older.
But while the dental clinic employee doesn’t trust herself to choose the right guy, she does know exactly what she wants – and that’s an alpha male who can handle her being a “strong woman”.
“I sometimes steamroll men who aren’t strong enough,” she spills – leaving us wondering exactly what the experts were thinking when they paired her up with mild-mannered sweetheart Mikey Pembroke.
The baby-faced boy from Sydney’s northern suburbs was clearly super nervous on the pair’s big day, and Natasha’s friends could tell – instantly writing him off as ‘not the guy for her’.
“He’s cute,” laughed one of the bridesmaids.
“That’s the problem!” retorted one of the bride’s well-groomed friends, Lincoln.
“Natasha will eat him alive!”
When she first spotted her groom, Natasha was keen to give him the benefit of the doubt – after all, she was just chuffed to be walking down the aisle to someone who wasn’t twice her age.
“He did seem a little bit nervous at first – I am really hoping it’s just the build up of the day,” she quipped.
“I’m just genuinely happy it’s not an old man!”
But as the newlyweds headed to their photoshoot, things took a turn for the awkward, with the uncertain-looking bride forced to do the very thing she hadn’t wanted to: take the lead.
As Mikey giggled his way through the pics, Natasha started to give up hope that she’d found her love match.
“He’s so awkward… He’s got me a little bit worried,” she confessed.
“Hopefully it’s just nerves. I was hoping he’d take the lead. I like a man that takes the lead.
“I’m hoping he is someone who can handle me being a strong woman.”
Meanwhile, Mikey (who obviously knew literally nothing about how Natasha was feeling…) was happy to sit back and play second fiddle.
“She took the reins, which was really nice,” he smiled, after admitting that the brunette beauty was making him “nervous”.
“I needed someone confident.”
Thankfully, that well-groomed gent from the wedding ceremony – who, it turns out, is Natasha’s hairdresser, too – saved the day, stepping in to guide Mikey down the right path to Natasha’s heart.
“She needs someone to step up to the plate on her level and not be a pushover,” Lincoln firmly told the groom, who was teetering dangerously close to losing his lady’s interest.
“I’m not a pushover,” insisted Mikey.
“It’s very unusual for me to not be the alpha. I think that over this experiment, she will see that.”
Um, okay. We’ll wait and see… but regardless, the talking-to spurred the 29-year-old into action, and he began to open up to his leading lady.
But it was his moves on the dance floor that eventually won her over!
“I love the fact that he got up and danced in front of everyone,” said Natasha, after Mikey’s brother and best man Tom convinced him to put on a show.
“I feel like I actually have found my team mate… He is a wonderful human.”
