NEED TO KNOW
- Finalist Petro Papathomas surprised judges Poh Ling Yeow and Sofia Levin by revealing he’s a musician with music on Spotify.
- The judges gushed after hearing his songs, calling him a “legit proper muso”.
- Co-stars have jokingly dubbed him Australia’s “most eligible bachelor”.
The MasterChef grand finale is almost upon us, and Petro and Vinnie are the final two contestants ready to battle it out for the $250,000 prize.
However, after the semi-final this week, judges Poh Ling Yeow and Sofia Levin discovered something about one of the finalists and went on social media to light-heartedly roast him.
In case you missed it, Petro Papathomas isn’t just an accomplished home cook but is also a talented musician, with an EP and singles already released on Spotify.
While the judges learned of Petro’s side-hustle for the first time after the semi-final, the contestant hasn’t been shy about this part of his life, chatting to TV Week in June about how “shocked” the other contestants were to learn he could play the guitar.

Since revealing his secret, his MasterChef co-stars haven’t shied away from teasing their friend online, with Annabel calling him “boyfriend material”, and his roommate Luke telling WHO that he’s the “most eligible bachelor in Australia”.
Now Levin and Yeow have caught on, and their teasing is exactly what makes MasterChef stand out from other Australian reality TV shows.
What did the judges say about Petro’s musical talents?
Footage showing the judges listening to Petro’s music on Spotify while in a car heading off set was published online.
“We’ve just finished filming the semi-final,” Levin said. “And I heard that Petro can sing, so I stalked him.”
“He’s really good,” Yeow said, surprised. “Legit proper muso!”
Levin then followed up their praise with a question demanding why the singer had been “keeping this from [them]?”
Petro replied to their teasing with the comment “omg guys”, followed by an array of comments from the other contestants on the show, as Aaron called him a “man of many talents” and Luke asked, “Is there anything this guy can’t do?”.
While it’s easy to let the pressure of the competition get to you, it’s moments like these from the judges that prove just how supportive the MasterChef kitchen really is.
‘He’s probably the most eligible bachelor in Australia’
WHO spoke to Petro’s former roommate, Luke, to get his unfiltered thoughts on this “bachelor’s” hidden talents — particularly after those Alyona and Petro secret romance rumours were circulating.
“That’s hilarious,” Luke said, after finding out fans were swooning over Petro’s singing abilities. “He’s a lovely guy.”
We knew MasterChef Australia was good at discovering hidden culinary talents; however we never expected to discover a musician too!
