My Kitchen Rules is known for serving up plenty of drama alongside the dinners, and this year’s contestants wasted absolutely no time getting stuck in.
Food stylist Jane and her partner Shane from the Blue Mountains in New South Wales have already managed to ruffle a few feathers after just one episode, with their blunt critiques and attitude towards the food quickly making them the season’s most talked-about couples.
From refusing to eat everything on their plate because they’re “tasters, not eaters” to focusing heavily on presentation, Jane and Shane certainly weren’t afraid to make their opinions known.
The result? Fans have already started debating whether we’ve found this year’s MKR villains.
Speaking to WHO, self-proclaimed “Classy Bogans” Alisha and Deanne gave their unfiltered first impression of the stylish couple, revealing they had much the same gut reaction as viewers watching at home.

It didn’t take long for My Kitchen Rules fans to form an opinion on Jane and Shane. Viewers quickly called out Jane’s blunt commentary and unimpressed facial expressions, with some admitting they had already decided they didn’t like her.
“I’m already not a fan of Jane,” one viewer wrote, while another said Jane and Shane were “already doing my head in” despite the season only being one episode in.
Others accused Jane of acting as though she was above the other contestants, with one viewer describing her as a “sour puss” and taking particular issue with her facial expressions.
And it seems the reaction was strong enough for at least one viewer to switch off altogether, declaring the episode a “drama fest” they weren’t interested in.
Honestly, it might be impressive just how quickly the MKR audience has reached a consensus.
“It is amazing how quickly you can form a dislike of someone,” one viewer summed it up.
Of course, not every comment was about Jane’s attitude. In true reality TV fashion, her earrings also managed to become part of the conversation.
“I know this comment is not food related but what’s with Jane’s earrings,” one viewer asked.
Because apparently one episode of My Kitchen Rules is enough time to critique the food, the contestants and the accessories.
Alisha and Deanne’s first impressions of Jane and Shane
It wasn’t just viewers who noticed Jane and Shane’s, well, memorable entrance. South Australian friends Alisha and Deanne revealed they had a similar reaction when they first met the couple, with Alisha admitting Jane’s fashion immediately caught her attention.
“I think I was thrown a little bit by what Jane was wearing and stuff,” she told WHO.
But it was Jane’s demeanour that really stood out to the pair. Alisha said the way Jane carried herself and spoke to the other contestants gave her the impression that she considered herself “upper class” and everyone else wasn’t quite on her level.
“I mean, straight up, it was just pretty much that she was an upper class and everyone around her sort of wasn’t good enough to be sitting with her and stuff,” she said.
The comments Jane and Shane made throughout the episode only added to that impression, particularly their attitude towards food and some of the other contestants.
“Everything they said was just, yeah, well, we don’t, you know, line up for food or, you know, we’ve got a tradie over here who apparently has never had a party,” Alisha said.
Her verdict? The couple were “very stubby, very stubborn, very stubby”, while also playing it relatively safe in the kitchen.
So, it seems Alisha and Deanne weren’t exactly rushing to add Jane and Shane to their dinner party guest list either. And considering we’re only one episode in, something tells us this won’t be the last time Jane and Shane find themselves at the centre of the MKR drama.
