High-school sweethearts Steph and Gian may be the youngest couple on this year’s The Block at just 27, but they definitely shouldn’t be underestimated.

Steph is actually the first architect to ever compete on the show, so she brings a wealth of knowledge to the team, while Gian works in finance, meaning he’ll keep the couple’s budget on track.

“I think I’m a dreamer, and Gian is definitely the realist,” Steph admits to WHO

The couple have also just finished their own renovation, something that inspired them to audition.

“We’ve obviously been watching The Block for many years, but we never really thought to go on The Block because we’d never really gone through a renovation together,” Gian explains.

“So when we came on the other side of that, we were like, let’s give it a crack.”

Upstairs bathroom and redo rooms

This week, the five couples tackled not one but two rooms; the upstairs bathroom and a ‘re-do’ of a room of their choice. With drama behind the scenes continuing to brew the teams had a tough week. Whilst Eliza and Liberty took out the win, another team was unable to present a finished room.

Steph and Gian delivered two bathrooms this week; the upstairs ensuite and a transformation of their downstairs bathroom space. Whilst the judges loved the new bathrooms, their lack of face-level storage was a slight let-down.

The pair were awarded a score of 26 out of 30.

Steph and Gian had a lot to prove since their first challenge on The Block this season saw them come last in a Children’s Room Reno. They got wonderful feedback with the judges not finding a single fault!

The pair were awarded a score of 30 out of 30.

Master Ensuite Bathroom Week

This week of the season saw the five couples tackle another difficult space on The Block – the master ensuite bathroom.

Amidst a week of high tension and a lot of drama, both Eliza and Liberty and Kristy and Brett tied for first place.

The judges felt Steph and Gian’s bathroom was perfect for the socials but not great overall. Marty went further, saying it reminded him of a quarantine facility.

The pair were awarded a score of 21 out of 30.

The seventh week of the season saw the five couples tackle another massive space on The Block – the Kitchen and Laundry.

Eliza and Liberty took out their first win of the season with a near-perfect room, scoring 29 out of 30 points.

Steph and Gian delivered a well-liked room, but it was overlooked thanks to the massive functionality issues. The judge’s main critique was the cooktop on the Island bench.

Down Stairs Bathroom

The fourth week of the season saw the five couples tackle the downstairs bathroom and the competition was close, to say the least.

Leah and Ash ultimately won the week by a nail-biting half a point thanks to the use of their gnome which gave the couple an extra point. Kristy and Brett were close on their heels in second place.

Although the custom-made stone vanity and bench top was a hit among the judges they critiqued the placement on the toilet.

The pair were awarded a score of 25 out of 30.

Work From Home Space

The third week of the season saw the five couples tackle the work-from-home space and whilst all teams did finish, it was a race to the finish line as wet weather wreaked havoc.

In the end, week three saw Steph and Gian win for the second time in a row! Kyle and Leslie missed out on the top spot by only half a point which is amazing considering they only spent $13,917 in total.

Simple, sophisticated and a multi-purpose space. The judges appreciated the incredible building standard.

Studio

The second week of the season saw the five couples tackle the granny flat, appropriately re-named the studio. With tense body corporate meetings, alliances forming and drama almost every day, the week was a big one and as judging commenced, it was clear that not every team followed the brief.

In the end, week two saw Steph and Gian win as they finally found the groove – an impressive feat considering they had come last in the two previous rooms.

Guest Bathroom

The first week of the season saw the five couples tackle one of the hardest rooms – the bathroom. From demolishing the wrong room, to hiring new builders and even allegations of cheating, the first official week on the Block was full of drama.

Whilst the duo got praise for their layout and ideas, the execution of the bathroom was incomplete. The wooden beams were also a miss with the judges who felt it looked messy.

House Decider Challenge

The debut episode of the season saw the five couples compete in a house decider challenge to decide which house they will get for the remainder of the season.

The challenge saw the teams given 48 hours and a budget of $5000 to create a kid’s room based on a Disney+ character.

The New South Wales team missed the mark when it came to their Toy Story room, of which they presented a muted colour palette and adult furniture for a kid to grow into.

The judges agreed the couple missed the bride and didn’t deliver a room for kids, which saw them receive the lowest score of the competition – 14 out of 30.
