Where is The Golden Bachelor Australia filmed?

What’s the history of Tresco?

Tresco is a heritage-listed residence that was first designed and built by notable architect Thomas Rowe from 1867 to 1868.

In 1883, George Charles Westgarth added an extensive east wing, a second floor to the kitchen wing, and a summerhouse and fernery to the garden.

Tresco didn’t undergo further work/changes until the early 2000s.

At this stage, the interiors were modernised, the stables were converted into an office and cellar, and a one-bedroom apartment was added above the garage.

Who has owned Tresco?

Thomas Rowe was the first owner of Tresco, and he resided there until 1876.

After Thomas left, the house passed to subsequent private owners and tenants until 1902, when the State Government acquired the leasehold (later the freehold) for use by the Royal Australian Navy as the official residence for its Flag Officer in Charge.

The Navy held the property until 1997 when it moved into private hands (the Anstee family purchased it) and then in 2004 the house was sold to bookmaker-turned-investor David Waterhouse and his then-wife Janette Waterhouse.

Janette – who is no longer married to David – is the current owner.
