One of Rihanna’s earliest interactions with A$AP Rocky, the father of her two sons, was cheeky, to say the least.
After a brief introduction at rehearsals for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, the rapper (born Rakim Athelaston Mayers), boldly made his move at the awards show later that night.
The pair then collaborated a few times – she starred as his muse in the video for Fashion Killa, the same year he opened for her Diamonds World Tour – but they remained just friends, bonded by their shared love of fashion and music. Something changed though, in late 2019, soon after Rihanna’s relationship with Saudi billionaire businessman Hassan Jameel ended, but they proceeded with caution.

“We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives. We can make or break each other’s hearts,” Rihanna shared with Interview, adding that COVID lockdowns forced them to get comfortable with each other, fast.
“I let God lead and just let go. Because in previous relationships, I tried and tried and tried my best, and you still feel like it’s not enough,” the ‘Umbrella’ singer admitted.
“When someone sees you completely and believes in you, and thinks you’re worthy of being the mother of their kids, it’s a great feeling. I felt the same about him. I knew he would be a great dad.”

In an interview with Access Hollywood in December 2023, Rihanna similarly praised her beau’s parenting prowess, telling the outlet that she loves him “differently” after seeing him as a father.
“This is major, major … it’s a turn-on,” she said. “It’s just like, wow. What a leader, what a great, patient, loving [dad] … and my kids are obsessed with him.”
Speaking to Interview, Rihanna spilled some details of family life with their two sons – RZA and Rio. While Rocky, 35, changes nappies, she sings lullabies, and RZA’s first word was “Hey”.
She also got candid answering a question about her “fantasy surgery”, saying, “I want my titties pinned back to my shoulders, right where they used to be. I don’t want implants. I just want a lift,” adding, “I’m also scared of the knife. So if I had to pick one thing, I’m going to pick my boobs.”

Rihanna isn’t sure of exactly what’s in her future, but she is open to more children.
“I don’t know what God wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course, if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.”
Thankfully, Rocky’s on the same page. “I think we do a real great job at collaborating and making children,” he told Complex magazine in November.
“I think that’s our best creation so far. Nothing’s better than that.”

Creating is something Rihanna excels at. Whether that’s creating bubs with her love, working on her Fenty Beauty empire, or making music.
Right now, there isn’t a new album on its way, but Rihanna’s ready to start. “I have a lot of visual ideas,” the nine-time Grammy winner told Interview.
“It’s weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I’m having all of these visuals and I don’t have the songs for them yet.”
