It’s long been rumoured, and now Network 10 have confirmed it – Rove McManus will be returning to the network, to helm his piloted variety show, Bring Back Saturday Night, from next year.

The one-off special, originally screened as part of Ten’s Pilot Week schedule, will join Taboo, Kinne Tonight, and Trial By Kyle for a full-time berth on 10 in 2019.

The announcement comes ten years after Rove’s last successful series, Rove Live, finished up after a nine year run on the network, in November 2009.

Produced by Rove’s production company Roving Enterprises, who are also behind the successful, The Project, it will see Rove oversee a Saturday night variety show, the likes of which haven’t been seen on Aussie TV since Hey Hey It’s Saturday ran successfully in a similar time slot for 27 years.

Rove made the announcement at 10’s Upfronts event in Sydney on Wednesday night, during a live cross to The Project.

“’We have officially brought back Saturday night. It was gone and now it’s back. You’re welcome,” he told the panel.

Despite being the lowest-rating of all eight Pilot Week shows, due, in part, to it’s difficult slot, Rove said the Network had decided to back the fledgling show off the back of strong social media support.

Many celebs expressed their love for the format, including Tom Sampson, Sarah Harris and Mark Humphries.

“We had an overwhelmingly positive response on social media… I can’t remember the last thing I worked on that was overwhelmingly positive on social media,” the 44 year-old comedian told Confidential.

Rove can be seen hosting Whovians on ABC, a show dedicated to dissecting weekly episodes of Dr Who.
