It’s been a troublesome two years for Aussie pop singer Samantha Jade, however, her latest project seems to have injected some light into her life.
After enduring the first Sydney lockdown, and now in the midst of the second, Samantha is no stranger to the consequences of COVID.
Her wedding to fiancé Pat Handlin was postponed twice, and is now on hold indefinitely, until a time when her Western Australia family can attend.
“This year has been such a struggle for so many of us, and it continues to challenge us,” she tells WHO.
However, Samantha’s time in lockdown has led to one positive outcome – her new song, Beautiful and Golden (The Sisterhood Song).
Partnering with Priceline and their Sisterhood Foundation, Sammy penned the new project to celebrate ‘the sisterhood’, and what it means to belong to it in 2021.
“If we stick together and remember we have each other, there is peace and positivity in that. You can do so much more when you are part of a community – and we are,” she says.
The song, which was ultimately written by Samantha, took contributions from women all over Australia, with Priceline customers sharing what sisterhood meant to them.
“I loved reading all of the stories and personal anecdotes and felt privileged to write a song with these … [the song] belongs to all the incredible sisters who helped write it!”
“I love working with Priceline and love the Sisterhood Foundation – what it represents and means – how it helps women and their families in need,” the ARIA award-winner explains.
“When I had the opportunity to be involved – especially through music which is what I know best – I couldn’t say no.
“It was a perfect fit,” she adds.
As for what sisterhood means to Samantha, she credits her sense of belonging to the incredible female friendships she has, which include her brother’s girlfriends back home in Perth.
“For me, [sisterhood] means you are not alone, you are part of something bigger and better. It’s nice to feel like you belong to something,” she says.
“I’m so lucky to have such incredible friends – we’re all really there for each other.
“I think time is the most important thing you can give anyone, so I make sure I listen to my friends if they just need to offload and help them whenever they need,” the Bounce singer explains.
“I’m also lucky to go to so many events and get so many incredible things sent to me, so I make little goodie bags for my brother’s girlfriends and send them home to Perth!”
As lockdown continues, Samantha is keeping busy the same way most of us are – hanging out with her household. However, she has also found the time to be creative.
“I’ve been at home with my fiancé and my puppy! It’s been harder this time around compared to last year,” she says.
“I am grateful I was able to use the time to write my new song … I’ve been writing a lot. I’m always writing,” she confirmed, hinting at music that might be yet to come.
Beautiful and Golden (The Sisterhood Song) can be downloaded now on Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes, with all proceeds from the song going through to the Priceline Sisterhood Foundation.
