Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals she experienced Postpartum Depression

Sarah Michelle Gellar has taken to Instagram to share her brave story of overcoming Postpartum Depression.

The 40-year-old posted a 2009 snap alongside her daughter Charlotte and captioned it with her story. “Having kids is wonderful, and life changing, and rarely what you’re prepared for. I love my children more than anything in the world. But like a lot of women, I too struggled with postpartum depression after my first baby was born,” she admitted.

The actress also let her fans know that she tackled the emotional condition by asking for assistance form professionals. “I got help, and made it through, and every day since has been the best gift I could ever have asked for.”

“To those of you going through this, know that you’re not alone and that it really does get better,” she advised fellow mothers.  

She used her famous voice to make a political statement, ensuring other women knew Postpartum Depression is an illness that deserves treatment which is to be funded by the American Government.

In the past Michelle Gellar spoke to PEOPLE magazine and discussed the pressures she faces as a working mum. “I feel like home and work balance is an ever evolving process. Most importantly, wherever I am, I know I need to give 100 per cent of myself,” she said.
