The irony is not lost on The Bachelorette’s Sasha Mielczarek that moments before he is about to publicly discuss the end of his 18-month relationship with radio host Sam Frost, he walks past two brides and grooms having their official wedding photos taken in Sydney’s Observatory Park on Feb.19. Rewind just a few months and that was the same ending he had envisioned for himself and the bubbly 27-year-old, who he famously met on reality show The Bachelorette in 2015.
But not all fairytales have happy endings. “And now here I am on my own!” says the NSW South Coast–based construction manager, 31, speaking for the first time about his split since it was announced on Dec. 27.

“It’s been a pretty tough couple of months,” he acknowledges. On top of mourning the end of his relationship (he tells that he hasn’t really spoken to Frost since the split) he was also grieving the sudden passing of his grandmother Roma. But with the help of family and friends, including fellow The Bachelorette contestant Dave Billsborrow—they met up the day before while he was in Sydney for work—“I’m feeling much better.”
And he says despite the rumours, things between him and Frost ended amicably and there love was real. “Sam and I fell in love. And I still love her. She’s an amazing person.
