Dame Helen Mirren has been cast in the 8th installment of Fast and Furious, she has revealed to Elle magazine.
The 70-year-old actress has done racy before, and not just in a bikini on holidays. Mirren has also been behind the wheel in some intense driving scenes, fanging it in a racing car in TV series Top Gear in 2007.
The Oscar-Award-winning star told of her desire to work on the film franchise last year when she described it as her “great ambition” to Yahoo Movies: “I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie.”
Although the actress is a confirmed cast member, exactly what character she will be playing has not been released. But Mirren told the producers of the film, “I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive!”
The attraction? Last year on US TV’s the Late Show, Mirren was asked if she’s a fan of the film series, and she responded bluntly, “Well, I’m a fan of Vin Diesel.” Looking directly into the camera, she spoke to the actor: “I love you. You don’t know who I am, but I still love you.”
Dame Helen has form with high-octane movies: she starred with the late Alan Rickman in 2015’s suspense thriller Eye in the Sky and with Bruce Willis as a former spy in 2010’s RED.
The 8th film in the Fast and Furious franchise is due to be released in April 2017.
