Shay Mitchell played a young, gay girl on Pretty Little Liars for almost ten whole years and her performance was so believable, fans started to question whether or not she was a lesbian in real life.
Although Shay and Emily Fields are two completely different girls, Shay does identify a lot with the girl she played for so long.
“People always ask me, ‘You play a gay character? Are you gay? Are you straight? Are you this? Are you that?'” Shay tells Maxim magazine.
“Look, Emily doesn’t label herself, and I don’t label myself either,” she says. “I fall in love with the spirit of somebody. Love is love, and that’s something that I’ll keep saying.”
However she has revealed the one quality that attracts her over most: confidence.
“I’ve seen the most beautiful people walk into a room, and you can just tell they’re not confident,” Shay shares. “It’s just like… ehh… it takes it down for me.”
