Married At First Sight star Nicole Heir has come forward with bombshell behind-the-scenes claims about her relationship with on-screen husband Craig Keller.
Fans of the show watched on during an episode in season three, as Nicole became angry with her drunken ex-navy beau after he returned home from a night out with friends.
But now the 28-year-old Gold Coast teacher has told News.com.au that what viewers saw of the incident wasn’t the full story.
After requesting a night off from filming to spend it with mates, Nicole reveals that a “highly intoxicated” Craig returned home around 3am, sporting a new tattoo.
“He was off work on compo [worker’s compensation] so he’d been taking strong pain relief [medication]… with no alcohol and no sleep,” she said.
“I came home from work [on Friday evening] and the house was a pigsty, there was smashed glass… he’d been drinking all day.
It was then that Nicole suggested to producers that she call off a dinner party that the couple had planned to host that evening for some of Craig’s friends.
“I was like, ‘I don’t know if we can go ahead – he’s obviously not well,’” she said.
“They eventually called it off.”
But it wasn’t long before Nicole began to feel uneasy with Craig’s behaviour, prompting her to stay at a friend’s place for the weekend as she “didn’t feel safe.”
“One of the producers actually got threatened by him that night as well…” she confessed.
“He was really disrespectful and abusive.”
Craig has since hit back at the explosive claims, denying that he’d been on a drinking binge or ever planned to host the dinner party.
Instead, he says that the couple had agreed to film a segment of the pair with their respective friends coming together for a night on the town, but things hadn’t gone to plan when the group didn’t get along.
“Nicole and her friends were a bit more ‘upper class’ than I am and they sort of looked down on us, and my mates didn’t want a bar of it – they were disgusted,” he explained.
“She left with them and I stayed, but we had a bit of a falling out over it.”
He also revealed that producers had decided to put him up in a hotel after Nicole kicked him out of her house following the argument.
“We didn’t even have a big night – I was so p**sed off,” he said.
Despite since deciding to stay together in the finale of the show, Nicole ended her relationship with Craig soon after the episode was filmed.
“I knew he wasn’t the right one for me, but I didn’t want to break his heart on national TV… but we broke up the next time I saw him,” she admitted.
