All hail Spider-Man, he’s making international weekenders possible again

My horizons have been broadened!

We have everything on our doorstep here in Australia except one thing — other countries. We often need to scurry down to the coast for a weekend away if we want some peace and quiet, with international travel taking too long and being too expensive to squeeze between our work hours.

That’s what I thought, anyway.

Then I flew from Sydney to Singapore (and back) in just over 48 hours, and my mind was blown. Could it be possible to fly internationally and not compromise on rest or money in the process?

Amazingly, the answer is yes.

Last month, I flew on Scoot’s new Spider-Man: Brand New Day themed aircraft, and the travel was not only enjoyable on my trip, but it enhanced it.

I didn’t need to sit and watch the clock ticking down as I flew eight hours and wished we were geographically closer to home.

Instead, I was delighted and realised that maybe, just maybe, my horizons had just been broadened.

What is the Spider-Man: Brand New Day themed aircraft like?

Basically, Scoot has decked out planes with Spider-Man: Brand New Day decorations and memorabilia to celebrate the release of the movie (and make the flight experience much more interesting and enjoyable for customers than a regular flight).

The headrests are covered with Spider-Man’s face, pictures of him line the walls, the music is lifted directly from the movie, and then an announcement from Spider-Man himself plays somewhere between the seatbelt sign lighting up and the safety demonstration by cabin crew.

What a win.

I pre-ordered a meal and was given a Spider-Man flight tag, napkin and eco bag, and I was happily cruising along at 35,000 feet not worried about the flight duration or the cost of being there.

The budget airline (which flies across Australia, China, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand) made it possible to get to my destination and enjoy myself, and that’s a priceless gift for someone who resides in Australia.

I was even treated to a small cake from the cabin crew after they learnt it was my birthday the day we were flying, and it really was the icing on the cake of a great trip.

The immersive experience is available until September 13, and I’m already considering another trip before then to make the most of it.

What did I do in Singapore for the weekend?

I had never visited Singapore before, and with only a day on the ground, there were a lot of sights to jam in.

Thankfully, staying at the YOTELAIR Hotel and Singapore Changi Airport made it super easy to get in the thick of things without compromising on comfort.

I was steps away from the famous HSBC Rain Vortex — the water fountain at the airport — plus I played tourist at the Merlion fountain at Merlion Park and visited the Gardens by the Bay.

Singapore was just as impressive at night as it was during the day.

I drank coffee and window shopped, and honestly, it was an incredible trip that left me feeling mentally refreshed.

If you need an adventure (or just a sea change for a few days), a Scoot Spider-Man: Brand New Day flight can make it possible.

Enjoy!
