One player who has been unforgettable on the pitch during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is Alanna Kennedy. The 29-year-old Sydney-born player is a defender and midfielder who also plays for Manchester City in the English FA Women’s Super League.
She’s been going viral on social media, not only for her incredible gameplay but also for her classic funny moments alongside team members Mackenzie Arnold and Caitlin Foord.
Fans are keen to delve deeper into the lives of the Tillies – including reading up on their romantic relationships and the family lives of the players.
While Alanna has been private about her love life, it did make headlines in 2020 during her highly publicised relationship with influencer Sophie Cachia.
Is Alanna Kennedy in a relationship?
At the moment, it is unknown whether Alanna Kennedy has a partner as she has not yet made any comments on the matter. The soccer player has not gone public with any new relationship since the end of her relationship with Sophie Cachia.
Sophie Cachia and Alanna Kennedy
Following Sophie Cachia’s split from ex-husband Jaryd in 2019, she embarked on an on-again-off-again relationship with Alanna Kennedy.
The two featured heavily on Sophie’s Instagram account throughout their relationship, before their final split in early 2020. While Alanna hasn’t spoken out openly about the inner details of her relationship, choosing instead to keep her private life private, Sophie did speak to Mia Freedman on the No Filter podcast in May 2022 to share more details on the nature of their relationship.
“I don’t like to use the word ‘toxic’, but our relationship at times showed signs of that for sure, which we both contributed to,” she said.
“Alanna is an incredibly strong woman as well. And… I found myself cowering down to someone all the time — willingly. It was such a different relationship dynamic for me. I’d never known anything like that. So I thought, ‘Oh this feels different, I’m gonna go with this’.
“It could have been the littlest decision but I didn’t have to think because I got told what to do. And I loved it.”
Explaining to Mia that the pair would continually fight about small things like “who didn’t have a nice tone on the phone or who didn’t put a kiss on the end of her message,” Sophie added: “She was not the person for me, which I can wholeheartedly accept now.”
“(We broke up) four or five times, maybe. I was gutted every time. And every time, I went straight back…She was my drug and I was addicted. And if you ask me why, I can’t tell you. You know, I loved her. It’s as simple as that.”
Whilst Alanna never spoke publically about the demise of their relationship. Sophie revealed in the podcast that Alanna ended their relationship for good in 2020 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The reality was I’d been cut off by someone who I loved so much…I wasn’t just dealing with heartbreak. I was dealing with grief plus severe depression. And being a single mum at home with two kids full-time, trying to keep them afloat. But I was drowning.
“The best thing she ever did — which I now can see, I didn’t see at the time — was cut me off completely. Because she had recognised she could no longer do that to me as well. And I needed her to do that because I never would have been brave enough to do it.”
Despite their relationship ending almost four years ago, Sophie showed her support to her ex-girlfriend as she competed in the Women’s World Cup.
Sophie was spotted attending Australia’s World Cup Opener against Ireland in Sydney and shared on Instagram that she would also be attending the Australia V Nigeria game in Brisbane.
