“Montoya, por favor!” – It’s the internet’s new favourite meme that has transcended language barriers, and if you haven’t seen the now-viral clip of Temptation Island contestant José Carlos Montoya absolutely legging it away from producers, you’re definitely missing out.

The clip, which showcases Montoya’s intense (but justified) reaction to watching his girlfriend engaging in some NSFW activities with her new reality TV housemate, has quickly done the rounds across TikTok and X – already wracking up over 150 million views.

I know you’re all thinking, “Who wouldn’t want to sprint down a beach scream-crying after a bad day?” but seriously, if you thought MAFS and Love Island were dramatic, they have absolutely nothing on the meme’s source material (and Montoya’s ongoing nightmare) La Isla de las Tentacione.

What is Temptation Island?

While the unsubtitled clips of Montoya losing his mind are nothing short of cinema, the context of the show makes the ongoing drama even wilder.

ICYMI, La Isla de las Tentacione, known internationally as Temptation Island, centres around five real-life couples who kiss their partners goodbye for a few weeks for the ultimate test of their fidelity.

Staying on opposite sides of the island, the boyfriends and girlfriends each have a separate villa filled with ‘temptations’ in the form of a new group of hot singles whose sole purpose is to seduce the contestants into having an affair.

Sure, signing up for a competition with the full knowledge that the love of your life may cheat on you might already be dramatic enough, but in an added layer of craziness, the couples each set ground rules for what they can and cannot do during their pseudo-single life – but there’s a catch.

If one-half of the couple breaks a ground rule, an alarm will go off in the other villa, but those in that villa don’t know whether it was their partner or not who crossed the line. How do they find out? Well, in a special kind of reality TV torture, the contestants can opt to tune into a live feed of their partner’s villa to see an uncensored view of exactly what their significant other is up to.

What is the “Montoya, por favor” meme about?

Now you’re up to speed on the show, it’s easy to see how complex the ongoing drama between José Carlos Montoya and his girlfriend Anita Williams is.

His cinematic crash-out may already be the most relatable meme of the year so far, but this saga has so many layers.

After making waves on socials, fans did a deep dive into the early episodes of the season – uncovering that our boy Montoya also engaged in some *steamy* activities with one of the singles Gabriela.

After watching her boyfriend receive a lap dance from another girl, Anita was not having it and quickly turned up the heat on her side of the island. While her payback may have given us all some incredible content, it clearly shook Montoya to the core, with his subsequent reactions including (but not limited to) tearing his shirt apart, screaming into the void, and running full speed through the waves to Anita’s villa.

Where to watch Temptation Island in Australia

If you’re as invested in Montoya and Anita’s relationship as we are, binge-watching every single episode of La Isla de las Tentacione is undoubtedly at the top of your to-do list.

Unfortunately for those of us residing outside of Spain, the current season is not available to stream, with the distribution currently being limited to the Spanish free-to-air channel Mietle. That being said, a few fans have been uploading some of the most meme-worthy moments to X with subtitles in a variety of languages, so rest assured you won’t miss out on any of the latest drama.

Despite the lack of streaming access for the Spanish version of the show, the U.S. version of Temptation Island is available to stream in Australia through 7plus and AppleTV+.
