Susan Sarandon’s daughter Eva Amurri Martino has opened up about a traumatic experience she had when her baby son was dropped on his head.
Ammuri Martino, addressed the incident on her blog ‘Happily Eva After’ – where she claimed that her Night Nurse fell asleep while holding her three-month-old son Major James.
Baby Major reportedly fell on the hardwood floor and which resulted in a fractured skull.
“A couple of days after Thanksgiving, our Night Nurse fell asleep while holding Major and dropped him, and he cracked his head on the hardwood floor,” Eva wrote. “Kyle [Martino] and I were sleeping at the time and were awoken by the sound of his head hitting the floor, and then hysterical piercing screams.
“He suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on his brain, and was transported by ambulance to Yale Medical Center where I spent two harrowing days with him to receive emergency care and further testing.”
The blogger who also shares a two-year-old daughter called Marlowe Mae with former soccer player husband Kyle Martino, went on to admit that the experience was the most “traumatic and anxious” two days of her life.
The mother of two confirms that thankfully, baby Major is “completely fine” at the moment, however Eva believes the whole family has been left traumatised and guilt ridden by the dangerous incident.
“Well, let me tell you– the guilt I bore in the days and weeks after this accident was more intense and more damaging than anything I would wish upon my worst enemy,” she wrote on her blog.
“I had all those same thoughts and more. I wept in the hospital, telling anyone who would listen that it should have been me. That I was to blame.
“The truth is, even this woman who came so highly recommended, with a perfectly clean track record, could make a very human mistake. It could happen to anyone”, and as they told me repeatedly in the hospital, it DOES happen to anyone.”
And although Eva says she does forgive the woman who dropped her son, she said she no longer works for the family.
“And even though I finally made peace with the fact that this freak accident could not have been avoided by me, it has continued to effect me to my core and in all aspects of my daily life,” she said.
Eva said it’s “nearly impossible” for her to trust anyone to care for her son anymore and she now doesn’t employ anyone at night.
Following the accident she says she gets “immediate panic attacks” when she her son cry and is prone to dizzy spells and has a loss of appetite.
The lifestyle blogger her instincts tell her she has “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, possibly linked to some form of Postpartum Depression”, but this year she can accept the things she can’t change.
“To anybody else who is suffering from similar feelings or challenges, no matter the cause– I am with you in this. Let’s get better. It’s time,” she finished the post.
