We’ve got a message in a bottle just for you: Taylor Swift is reportedly engaged to her boyfriend of five years, Joe Alwyn. We’re calling it Engagement (Taylor’s Version).
While the news officially broke on February 17, more confirmation has come to light, with British paper The Sun reporting that Taylor has been wearing an engagement ring “behind closed doors”.
“Taylor and Joe are incredibly happy, and very, very, in love,” a source claiming to be close to Joe revealed to The Sun.
“They’ve actually been engaged for a few months but have only told their inner-inner circle – basically immediate family and trusted, very old friends,” they revealed.
Reports actually began to surface that Joe had proposed after the couple enjoyed a low-key three day trip to Cornwall, England, in January.
The rumours were confirmed by US publication Life & Style, who claim to have “multiple sources” sharing the intimate details of Taylor and Joe’s engagement with them.
But fans have been speculating that they’ve been engaged for much, much longer.
Given the low-key nature of their relationship, Taylor and Joe are yet to comment on whether or not they are engaged. And, to be honest, we doubt they will. The 32-year-old singer and 30-year-old actor have been incredibly protective of their private relationship.
Taylor famously took a step back from the spotlight following her highly publicised splits from Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston (along with the “snake” drama set in motion by Kanye West and Kim Kardashian).
When she returned to the industry with a new album, reputation, she was smitten with her new man and made her feelings known with tracks like Gorgeous and Dress.
Taylor met Joe at The Met Gala in May, 2016, and it’s believed they began dating in October of that same year – though the first reports of their romance didn’t surface until May, 2017.
Despite working together on Taylor’s Grammy Award-winning album Folklore, and the follow-up album Evermore, they’ve rarely spoken about each other publicly.
In her acceptance speech at the 2021 Grammy Awards, the singer gave a rare public shout-out as she thanked him for being “the first person I play every single song that I write.”
She added: “I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine.”
WE LOVE TO SEE IT. Congratulations to the happy couple (if, you know, this is indeed true).
