It’s been a busy few years for Tess Haubrich, who has gone from stints in movies – including the Ridley Scott blockbuster Alien: Covenant – to starring in a string of locally made television series, like Channel 9 series Bad Mothers.
Tagging along for the ride has been Haubrich’s 3-year-old daughter, Juniper, who she shares with her husband, Australian actor Nicholas Gell.
“Three months after she was born, I got cast in the role in Alien: Covenant,” she says. It was a busy time. “But I have a very supportive family. And her dad is amazing,” Haubrich adds.
“Of course, it’s had its challenges, like anything that’s worthwhile, but it’s definitely so great. After a day of filming, I come home and I feel so lucky that I have her. She is so sweet.”

Haubrich says she can relate to her Bad Mothers character, who is deep in the juggle of raising two kids and balancing work and home life.
“Definitely,” she explains. “Once you have been a mum, you just understand certain things. And I definitely identified and related to what my character goes through, even though the same things haven’t happened to me – I could put myself in those shoes. I think the show is touching on a lot of real issues, and the joy and the challenges of being a mum, and being a woman.”

Like her onscreen character, Haubrich says she’s been blessed to have her own little circle of mothers’ group friends, who’ve had her back since their babies were small.
“There are still two or three of us that get together,” she says. “I suppose we could be the rejects too – I don’t know! We go have margaritas whenever I’m home on the Northern Beaches … it’s loose!”
