What is The Bluff about?
At the centre of The Bluff is Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden, a former pirate who has traded chaos for quiet family life. Naturally, that peace doesn’t last long.
When her former captain Connor (played by Karl Urban) tracks her down seeking revenge, Ercell is forced back into a world she tried to bury. Expect brutal sword fights, clever traps, high-stakes standoffs and a whole lot of bloodied redemption arcs.
But beneath the action (and there’s plenty of it), this is a story about motherhood and survival — about how far someone will go to protect their family when their past comes knocking.
Directed by Frank E. Flowers, the film blends sweeping cinematic scale with personal stakes. And knowing those sweeping shots were captured in Queensland? It just hits differently.
