In thrilling news that has the internet in a spin: Theo James is back. Following on from the success of White Lotus, the British actor has yet another must-see project in the pipeline.
Theo is starring in the new Netflix series The Gentlemen. And if you’re wondering, yes, it is a spin-off series based on Guy Ritchie’s film of the same name. But this time, Matthew McConaughey won’t be gracing our screens in three-piece suits.
Fret not, however, because Guy Ritchie is actually the one transforming his box office hit into a TV show. While the series won’t feature the original cast, it will be set within the same world.
What is The Gentlemen TV show about?
Much like the film, the series will follow a – let’s be honest – strangely attractive gangster involved in the criminal underworld of Britain.
“The Gentlemen sees Eddie Horniman (Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizeable country estate to become the new Duke of Halstead – only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire. Moreover, a host of unsavoury characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation,” the full synopsis reads.
“Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it.”
When does The Gentlemen premiere?
Netflix has just confirmed the new series will premiere globally on March 7, 2024.
Who is in The Gentlemen cast?
First and foremost, we have Theo James – known for his work in the Divergent film series, The White Lotus, Sanditon and The Time Traveller’s Wife.
Theo is in the lad role as Eddie, the second son of the Duke of Halstead who never expected to inherit a thing. So, he created a life for himself, excelling at Sandhurst and achieving the rank of Captain in the British Army. When his father dies, he steps into the role of Duke (and all that comes with it).
“As Eddie contends with the unexpected criminal responsibilities which come with owning this English country estate, his character will be tested like never before,” the synopsis reads.
Theo is joined by a number of well-known stars including Kaya Scodelario (Skins, The Maze Runner), Daniel Ings (Lovesick, The Crown), Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Ray Winstone (The Departed) and the usual favourite, Vinnie Jones (Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels).
Ray stars as cannabis empire founder Bobby Glass, while Kaya stars as Bobby’s daughter and the empire’s operations leader.
“Effortlessly stylish, sardonic, and inheriting her fair share of Bobby Glass’ steeliness, Susie oversees her father’s criminal organisation on his behalf,” the synopsis reveals of her character. “When Eddie starts making problems for her early on, she finds her patience quickly wearing thin.”
Enemies to lovers? Enemies who murder each other? Time will tell what’s in store for our two lead characters Eddie and Susie.
