If you’ve been hanging out for more Handmaid’s Tale since that epic season 3 cliffhanger, we have news!
WATCH: Is this reality star hoping to score a role on the series?
And the news is good, friends. (Well, mostly…)
The fourth season of the award-winning TV drama is set to start filming on March 2, which isn’t far away at all.
After a few months of shooting, things will wrap up in July – and while they might smash out the production and get us the goods before 2020 is over (some are saying as early as August), there’s a chance we might not find out what kind of fate awaits June Osborne (aka Offred) until next year.
So what else do we know about the upcoming fourth season?
The show’s production company, Gilead 4 Productions Inc, are expected to make 10 episodes this time around – a few shy of the 13 instalments we got in Seasons 2 and 3 – and, in keeping with the previous seasons, it’s believed that the majority of filming will take place in Ontario, Canada.
ICYMI, the last time we saw June (played by Elisabeth Moss), she was – spoiler alert – loading a bunch of kids onto a plane to help them escape Gilead’s oppressive regime, and was shot by a guard in the process.
Meanwhile, Serena Joy (played by Aussie star Yvonne Strahovski) learnt she was about to face trial.
Like we said… Cliffhanger.
The plot of Margaret Atwood’s original 1985 book of the same name played out in full during the first season of the Hulu hit show, so we basically have no idea what’s coming up for June and friends next.
But we do know that a sequel based on Atwood’s follow-up novel, The Testaments, which she penned in 2019, is on its way, too.
This binge-worthy Hulu series captured the imagination of people all over the world with feminist messages and its expansion on the original plot.
Based on a dystopian world where women are basically property, the show has uncomfortable parallels with current events, and has done a lot to bring awareness to women’s rights.
While the show has largely stayed faithful to the author’s original plot, Seasons 2 and 3 have gone beyond the book to show what happens to Offred/June and how she changes in Gilead.
