Alex (Louis Ashbourne Serkis, son of Andy “Gollum” Serkis) is a regular schoolboy, contending with bullies, homework and the things you’d expect a kid his age to have on his plate. But when he pulls Excalibur out of a stone at a building site, he has to rally an army of students for an epic showdown with Morgana’s (Rebecca Ferguson) evil forces.
Despite being overly long, Kid is packed with positive messages and action, with parents sure to appreciate Patrick Stewart’s rock’n’roll-loving version of Merlin. (Out now) 3.5 stars
