Twenty years after Spice Girls launched with their monster debut single “Wannabe,” three of the original members of the girl power supergroup group have announced they’re coming back together – but with a twist.
Mel B, 41, Geri Halliwell, 43, and Emma Bunton, 40, – once known as Scary, Ginger and Baby Spice, respectively – will join together to create the new all-girl band GEM.
“We’ve been thinking, we have the best friends in the whole entire world,” Mel B begins, in a 40-second video announcement shared to YouTube, before Halliwell adds: “You’ve stood by us for 20 years, and we want to say a big thank you.”
Adds Bunton: “We’ve had our ups and downs, but you’ve always been there.”
Of the remaining Spice Girls line-up, Mel C (once known as Sporty Spice), 42, tells The Sun: “I am keeping tight-lipped. There are lots of discussions going on. Right now I am in the studio working on my own album and that is my focus. I’m taking it slowly,”
Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), 42, now a respected fashion designer, is definitely not taking part. Earlier this year, when rumours of a reunion to mark the 20th anniversary began, her reps told website TMZ she “has been very respectful about the fabulous time they had together in the past, however her focus is now very much her family and fashion business.”
