The night’s semi-final featured one last brutal cull before the grand finale this week, with half of the eight remaining artists getting the boot.

Among the victims was Home and Away star Mark Furze who lost out to fellow Team Kelly member Chris Sebastian.

The men were both gracious in defeat – and success – and when Chris paid tribute to Mark before he left the stage, there was not a dry eye in the house.

“This is one of the most hardworking people on the show. He’s constantly working on everything and he’s just the best bloke. And to share the stage with him is an honour,” Chris, who is the brother of coach Guy Sebastian, said.

Mark returned the compliment, telling team mentor Kelly Rowland: “He’s someone I’ll call one of my best mates for the rest of my life and you’ve made a great choice.”

But when Mark was asked how his experience on The Voice overall was, that’s when things really got emotional.

Choking up, Mark could be seen with tears in his eyes as he replied, “It’s been the best – thanks! I’m so grateful.”

The former soap star wasn’t the only one on stage overcome with emotion however. As the camera turned to Guy, the Standing With You singer was seen wiping away tears as he cried on stage.

Earlier this week, Mark opened up to New Idea about the advice his mate Guy had given him before auditioning for The Voice.

“Who? Oh, you mean Chris’ brother? His advice was ‘Just be yourself, because my dream is to one day be half as cool as you.’ He said that word for word, I swear,” he joked.

During the interview, Mark also revealed who he was singing for whenever he stepped foot on stage.

“Anyone who enjoys listening! I want to connect with people. I can sing for myself in my bedroom. When I’m on stage, it’s about making other people feel something,” he divulged.

While Mark sadly didn’t make the cut for the grand finale, four other artists will be continuing on as Australia votes for the show’s winner this Sunday.

The finalists are Johnny Manuel on Team Guy, Chris Sebastian on Team Kelly, Siala Robson on Team George and Stellar Perry on Team Delta.

The Voice grand finale airs Sunday 7pm on Channel Nine.
