There can only be one winner on The Voice each year and as the competition nears the pointy end, artists are dropping like flies.
While most singers are gracious in defeat, one artist didn’t take her loss in her stride.

In Tuesday’s Playoffs, Soma Sutton was up against Stephanie Cole, with coach Guy Sebastian opting to take the latter through to the next round.
After announcing his decision, he told Soma that she wasn’t in the right place in her life or on the right show, which was a factor in his choice.

In an astonishing rant that left coaches Guy, Delta Goodrem, Boy George and Kelly Rowland visibly shocked, Soma then declared she never wanted to compete on The Voice anyway.
“Well, the thing about that is that I didn’t even really want to come on the show in the first place,” she said.
“I was convinced to come here, to be here and stand here and do this in front of you. And it is disheartening.”

She then proceeded to grill the coaches, asking if their words of wisdom were real or if it was all just part of the television spectacle.
“The advice that you guys all give, it’s like, is it genuine? Or is it real? I would just like to know what you really think? Do I actually have what it takes to be a musician?” she asked.
Kelly insisted that neither she or her fellow coaches would lie to her just because it sounds good on TV, but Soma wasn’t done yet.
“I think the disheartening thing about it is you don’t have enough time to get to know me, you don’t know why I’m in my shell,” she admitted.

In response, her coach Guy said there was only so much he could do if she wasn’t willing to open up.
“We can only dive into our artists as much as they let us dive in. So if you don’t tell me what stops you from being the artist you need to be, what can I do?” he told her.
“I think you’ve got something special but you have to trust and you have to deal with the things that are holding you back.”
The Voice continues Sunday 7pm on Channel Nine.
