Sure, most people who were religiously watching season two of The White Lotus were doing so to find out who dies at the end. But us? We were trying to catch more glimpses of what the characters are reading.
If you haven’t noticed already, most of the cast can be spotted with a trusty old book throughout many of the episodes. And thanks to the investigative work of one devoted TikTok user @marinamay, we now know exactly what they are reading.
“I’ve got this obsession and every time watching a movie or some series and there is a book in a scene, I need to know which book it is,” explained Marina in the video.
“I think it says a lot about a character, the kind of books they read – it’s so interesting.”
So without further ado, we welcome you to the first meeting of The White Lotus book club. And in case you haven’t already, you can stream the entire season now on BINGE.
Starting strong with our girl Harper, played by none other than Aubrey Plaza. Throughout much of the season, Harper is seen carrying her book with her, from the pool to the bedroom. So what is it? Lost Children Archive by Valeria Luiselli.
The 2019 fiction novel, was inspired by the ongoing American policy of separating children from their parents at the Mexican-American border. It’s a multitude of stories woven into a story about a family’s road trip across America.
And Ethan? He’s reading the aptly titled, Everything is F*cked by Mark Manson.
The book is about hope. Telling, we know. It’s actually the third book by blogger and author Mark Manson, who also wrote the self-help book best seller, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.
Goodreads reveals that in this book, “Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us.”
Cameron is also spotted with a book throughout the series. Surprising, we know.
The novel, Gone Bamboo is written by Anthony Bourdain and is a fictional story that’s described as a hilarious crime thriller. A CIA-trained assassin in the Caribbean, from the mind of the incredible chef Anthony Boudain? A game changer.
Also interesting to note that this is the second book in a series, suggesting that Cameron (Theo James) could actually be a bit of a bookworm…
And don’t forget about Albie’s pick – The Architecture of Closed Worlds by Lydia Kallipoliiti.
