The genie is out of the bottle!
The first trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of Alladin has been released and it is everything we were hoping for and more!
The trailer begins with Aladdin (Mena Massoud) creating havoc as he weaves through a colourful marketplace trying to dodge the baddies who won’t quit chasing him. After a bunch of impressive stunts, we are fleetingly introduced to the magnificently beautiful Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott).
Eep, our hearts!

“You’ve stumbled upon an opportunity,” evil sorcerer Jafar (Marwin Kenzari) says to Alladin, hoping he’ll get on board with his devious plan. “I can make you rich, rich enough to impress a princess.”
Aladdin— being the naive hottie that he is— agrees to Jafar’s deal and heads to the to the Cave of Wonders where he finds the lamp, and the cheeky genie (Will Smith) who lives inside it.
“Can you make me a prince?” Aladdin asks the blue jokester before he breaks into song. ICONIC.
Soon enough, the pair team up to win the princess over… and the rest is history!

Although there are a bunch of nods to the stunning 1992 cartoon version— including the loved up pair riding that wonderful magic carpet— there’s a new take on our favourite Disney anthems, A Whole New World and Friend Like Me. And we are definitely vibing it.

Discussing the upcoming movie, Will Smith admitted to Entertainment Weekly that he was nervous to replace the late Robin Williams in the iconic role.
“Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying,” Smith said. “The question is always: Where was there meat left on the bone? Robin didn’t leave a lot of meat on the bone with the character.”
“I started to feel confident that I could deliver something that was a homage to Robin Williams, but was musically different,” he continued. “Just the flavor of the character would be different enough and unique enough that it would be in a different lane, versus trying to compete.”
Aladdin’s magic carpet will be riding into theatres on May 23.
