Watch Coldplay frontman calm a terrified crowd after barrier collapse sparks fears of a shooting

Chris Martin was quick to reassure fans at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City, after panic ensued due to a fence barrier collapse.

There was a loud crash that sparked fears that there was a gunman at the show and people began fleeing in a panic.

The Coldplay frontman and NYPD Assistant Chief Kathleen O’Reilly quickly reassured fans that there were that no shots were fired.

‘There’s no need to push people out of the way,’ he told them.

‘What happened is a barrier, I think, fell down. Of course it caused people to feel frightened and stuff like that. But nobody is trying to hurt anybody.

‘You’re all safe okay?’ event curator, Martin ‘I just want to tell you that. As far as I know, when you guys are ready, we can watch Janet Jackson.’

Meanwhile NYPD tweeted about the incident and confirmed Chief O’Reilly’s news: “There were NO SHOTS FIRED at #GlobalCitizenFestival. The sound was a fallen barrier,” the department wrote.
