True Blood gave us Alexander Skarsgård as Eric, a vampire so sleekly handsome he could have modelled menswear. Now meet the un-Eric, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), the lead character of the TV version of What We Do in the Shadows.

Nandor has eternal life but apparently no time for grooming. A dark, shaggy lump who shares a house in Staten Island with three other vampires, he looks as if he got up on the wrong side of the casket.

When the group’s leader orders them to take over the entire country, Nandor and his friends take a sensible first step – they attend a local council meeting.

At times feels like Parks and Recreation crossed with The Strain, this new spin on What We Do in the Shadows is very funny. (Starts Tue., Apr. 2 at 8.30pm; Fox Showcase) 4 stars
