It’s a truth universally acknowledged that 2020 was a terrible year for everyone. While a global pandemic gripped the world and changed it for good, we also had to deal with Criminal Minds being cancelled. Which one was worse, really?

After 15 seasons, we were finally forced to say goodbye to Dr. Spencer Reid, Emily Prentiss, and David Rossi, not to mention every character who came and left, and sometimes came again, since the premiere in 2005.

And what poor timing! While the last five years has seen us more and more gripped by true crime content, there’s nothing like a police procedural to keep that interest alive when we’re after escapism instead of shock and horror.

Luckily for us in Australia, though, you can still watch all of Criminal Minds on Disney Plus.

What is Criminal Minds about?

Just in case you’re new to the series, Criminal Minds is a US crime drama that aired on CBS, following a team of criminal profilers who work for the FBI. Their department is called the Behavioural Analysis Unit, and together they use profiling and analysis to investigate crimes and find perpetrators.

While there’s plenty of grisly crime to encounter on the show, it also follows the personal lives of the core cast, which changed a lot throughout the years it was airing.

Whether you’re a fan of the Jason Gideon and Elle Greenaway days, or live to watch Matthew Gray Gubler on your screen as Dr. Spencer Reid, there is plenty of Criminal Minds to be enjoyed.

Is there a Criminal Minds reboot on the way?

You bet! Only a few months after the show finished, Paramount+ announced they were on it, confirming their intention to bring the show back.

While the original had a one case per episode approach, the formula is being updated for the return, which will see the team working on one case across a 10-episode arc.

Currently, it seems actors Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler and Paget Brewster are attached to the project, and the deals signed are potentially for multiple years, meaning the first season probably won’t be the only.
