Rodger Corser is one of Australia’s favourite actors, and his genuine charm and sense of fun has led him to his latest venture,“the game master” of new show The Traitors.

Not only is he hosting, he’s “playing a character” and loving every minute of it!

The premise of the show is simple yet intriguing – find and unmask the Traitors before they get you.

“The group known as the Faithfuls are trying to find out who these traitors are,” Corser, 49, tells WHO.

“The Traitors have to lie to their teammates and convince them they are innocent, which turned out to be “a very interesting study of human behaviour”, Corser says.

“People really lay it on thick, pleading with a group to believe that they would never ever tell a lie. They even swear on the lives of family members. That’s when I was like, ‘Wow, you’re really committing!’”

An eclectic bunch of people have been chosen to live together in an old hotel and are using all different tactics in a bid to stay in the game to win up to $250,000.

“There’s people who exude confidence and try to set themselves up as leaders, and other people who are letting everyone else lead themselves into the fire,” the actor says.

“Trying to fly under the radar early seemed to be a good tactic, but perhaps making yourself vital to the game and being on the front foot was the way to go?”

In between challenges and filming, the contestants are isolated in their rooms, which the star says, “Intensifies the game”.

He adds: “Then they’re left with their own thoughts, which as you can imagine, can really get to people. It’s a tough psychological experiment.”

Corser, who has appeared in shows such as Doctor Doctor, Glitch and Home and Away, has racked up an extensive resume since his first role on BeastMaster in 1999.

However, despite being one of our most talented actors, he says that if he were to be a contestant on The Traitors, he would be “horribly, horribly bad” at lying.

“Being yourself, especially on TV or in a group like that, if it was me not hiding behind a character, I’m not very good,” he says. “It’s too much to remember I think, lying. The truth is so easy, there’s one version of events.”

Next up, Corser is heading to Melbourne to film another season of Five Bedrooms, but is remaining tight-lipped about another project he has in the pipeline.

“I’ve just been cast in something shooting in Sydney,” he says. “And then – fingers crossed – people start talking about a second season of this show. That would be nice.”
