Woody Allen’s latest film “Café Society” confirmed to open Cannes Film Festival

Starring Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg, the film is an ode to the glitz and glamour of 1930’s Hollywood.

Set in the picturesque movie lots and opulent manors of 1930’s Hollywood, Woody Allen’s latest project, Café Society will officially open the 69th Cannes Film Festival.

Featuring Blake Lively as a silver screen siren, the audience will be transported back in time while Jesse Eisenberg romances Kristen Stewart erstwhile trying to make it as a writer in the competitive movie industry.

Pregnant Lively has been busy getting into the gangster theme showcasing a preview of her flapper-inspired outfit on Instagram.

This year will mark the third time a Woody Allen picture has opened the prestigious festival, Midnight in Paris premiered in 2011 and Hollywood Endings in 2002.

The featurette, New York Stories, also opened the event in 1989 and starred a young Kirsten Dunst, who will this year be a member of the jury.

While Café Society isn’t in contention for the Palme d’Or, 21 films will compete for the prize including, Loving featuring Australian Joel Edgerton and directed by Jeff Nicholas. The film explores the trials and tribulations of an inter-racial marriage in US during the Civil Rights movement.

Happy Feet and Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller will this year preside over the jury with the winner to be announced on 22nd May.
