What can we expect from season two?
HBO’s official synopsis reads: “Amidst the intertwining lives in the town of East Highland, 17-year-old Rue must find hope while balancing the pressures of love, loss, and addiction.”
We can also tell from the trailer that her feelings for Jules, played by Hunter Schafer, remain pretty strong.
While most other details remain under-wraps, Hunter has spoken about what she hopes will come from the season, especially for her own character.
“I hope this growth and interrogation of Jules … and what she wants and ultimately finding newer and healthier intimacies in her relationships, which I hope will be more queer and more healthy … I hope that will continue,” she explained to IndieWire.
“Representation-wise, we’re still working on getting trans women who lie on many different ends of the spectrum of conventional beauty and conventional attraction and conventional ways of navigating gender and sexuality. There’s a myriad of ways to do that. And many trans people move through all that in that myriad of ways, including myself,” she added.
Zendaya has also teased what we might be able to expect from the season.
“I do miss Rue. She’s like my little sister in a lot of ways. And going back to that character is a home base for me,” she admitted to InStyle.
"There is a beautiful second season that has been written, but in order to do it the way we want to do it, we need to wait until it's safer,” she remarked of the COVID-19 delays.
Who will make up the cast?
Most of the cast from the first season will be making a return, including Zendaya and Hunter as Rue and Jules. Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie and Barbie Ferreira will be returning respectively as Cassie, Maddy, and Kat, while Australian actor Jacob Elordi will also return in the role of Nate. We can also expect to see Angus Cloud, Eric Dane and Nika King reprise their roles.
