However, we know fans still have a few Burning Questions (which is actually a great name for a Eurovision song), so we’ve answered them below!
Is Jess Mauboy in with a chance?
Miss Mauboy performs on Friday morning in the second semi-final. She nailed the dress rehearsal, which is also judged by a professional jury, knocking her song “We Got Love” out of the park. She is looking well placed to survive the semis but without the strategic voting of other Euro-nations, a grand final win is unlikely.
Damn. So who will win?
At this point bookies are backing either Cyprus or Israel to take home the top gong. Cyprus are the favourites with Eleni Foureira performing Fuego (that means fire in Spanish - oooh). Also, Eleni has the best hair flick since Beyonce, just give her the trophy.
Wait, Israel is still in with a chance after that CHICKEN DANCE?
That’s right, in fact Israel’s Netta Barzali lit up twitter with her barnyard moves. Let’s be honest, she’s got an incredible voice and her song, Toy, is pretty impressive. But there is something truly mesmerising about her chicken dance. It’s aggressive, intense and oh-so-Eurovision.
Can we talk about the costumes?
Absolutely. Shall we start with Estonia’s Elina Nechayeva? Her outfit is basically the second best light show after the Harbour Bridge on NYE. It has moving projections - that’s impressive even for Estonia! Special mention to Team Macedonia who figured two costumes were better than one and performed a mid-song outfit change. It wasn’t enough to keep them in the competition though.
What about a dark horse?
After last night’s semi final, Ireland's entrant, Ryan O'Shaughnessy (of course that’s his name), has skyrocketed into contention. He sings politely with an acoustic guitar - so Irish, so good.
Any idea on who we should send next year?
Shannon Noll. End of story. It’s time Europe got a taste of the kid from Condobolin.
What’s with all the wind machines?
Eurovision prides itself on BIG production values. There is no such thing as over the top. This year has seen the wind machine get a serious work out. Don’t you feel blown away?
What’s going on with Ryan Reynolds?
Great question. The actor is currently doing press for his new movie, Deadpool 2. Yesterday he released a video message pleading the case that his home country, Canada, be included next year. He also took a shot at yours truly, claiming “You let in Australia, and they’re barely on the planet.” SHOTS FIRED.
