Their three-year relationship was met with a lot of public backlash, with many fans of the young actress making note of their 21-year age gap.
Florence had to constantly defend her choice to date Zach, which is perhaps why the pair seemed to go mostly offline, rarely posting about each other on socials or mentioning each other when it came to press rounds.
“I have the right to hang out and be with and go out with anyone I want to,” she told Elle UK in 2020.
"I know that part of being in the spotlight is that people might invade your privacy and have opinions on it, but it’s bizarre that normal folk are allowed to display such hate and opinions on a part of my life that I’m not putting out there,” she continued.
But it’s not just her relationship with Zach that Florence has had to defend. When she posted photos to Instagram of herself hanging out with friend and former co-star, Will Poulter, she also found herself the subject of speculation and dating rumours.
“This is getting a little silly now,” she wrote over a black screen on her Instagram Stories at the time.
“No, Will Poulter and I are not dating. We went to the beach with our friends, who are always about half a metre away from us in every picture, but have been clearly cut out/framed out so that it looks otherwise.”
Florence has also been the subject of rumours regarding her Don’t Worry Darling co-star, Harry Styles, who is currently dating the film’s director, Olivia Wilde.
Some sources claim Harry and Florence were romantically linked before he struck up a romance with Olivia, while other rumours claim that the romance between Harry and Olivia served as a major distraction on set, in turn frustrating Florence.
While Florence has been notably quiet on promoting the film, which comes out next month, she did address the project in her Harpers Bazaar interview.

"When it’s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world go down on someone, it’s not why we do it. It’s not why I’m in this industry,” she said of the film and her co-star, Harry.
“Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have conversations like that.
“That’s just not what I’m going to be discussing because [this movie is] bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are bigger and better than that.”
