“We have bought the rights from Paramount," said Khan, who recently starred in the critically acclaimed historical drama Thugs of Hindostan. "I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script. It is a wonderful story about this character. It is a feel-good film. It is a film for the whole family.”
Shooting for the upcoming flick is set to begin in October and will be produced by Khan along with Viacom's Indian film unit, Viacom18 Motion Pictures.
Based on Winston Groom's 1986 novel of the same name, the hit film won an Oscar for best picture, best director and best actor for Tom Hanks who took on the lead role in 1994.
