The Game Of Thrones star, 31, has slammed Marvel Studios for their lack of queer representation in superhero movies.
Speaking to Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival, the 31-year-old said:
“There’s a big problem with masculinity and homosexuality that they can’t somehow go hand in hand. That we can’t have someone in a Marvel movie who’s gay in real life and plays some superhero. I mean, when is that going to happen?”
This isn't the first time the studio—which has produced 19 films and none of which have included a queer, bi, lesbian or transgender character— has been called out for their lack of diversity.
However, due to public outcry and many actors speaking out about the issue, Marvel Studios director, Kevin Feige has recognised the error in his ways and confirmed that LGBTQ characters will appear in a slate of new films they are working on.
