Gilmore Girls' creator makes a shock revelation about the show
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Gilmore Girls' creator Amy Sherman-Palladino admitted, “Luke was originally a female character.”
“[The network] came to me and said we need another guy, so I literally just took a character and changed the name, didn’t even change any of the dialogue because I’m that lazy.”
Before Luke became, well Luke of course – the characters original name was meant to be Daisy.
Yet, when the decision to make Daisy Luke, naturally the story line for that character started to shift. As a result, the idea of a strong chemistry between Lorelai Gilmore (played by Luke Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson) and Luke Danes came about. “We did a few shows and they just had chemistry,” Sherman-Palladino says.
“It was the episode where they were in the market and Lorelai’s spying on Dean. Luke was there and they had this scene that didn’t mean anything.”
