In a new promo for the hit Channel 7 show, Hank is shown telling his father Terry that that ‘if you come to the wedding that’s a sign that you’ve apologised to Lily.’
Terry then curtly responds, ‘Apologies shouldn’t be handed out if you don’t mean them.’
The promo then cuts to a shot of two empty seats in the front row of the wedding’s guest seating, with parents Terry and Margaret nowhere to be seen. We then see an apparently distraught Hank crying as he attempts to deliver his vows.
Hank and Lily have faced an uphill battle trying to get his conservative parents to accept Lily – who isn’t shy about countering Terry’s very conservative opinions with her own progressive ones.
Hank has in the past complained that ‘You can't talk about lots of groups of people anymore…. Racism, homophobia, Islamaphobia... all the phobias.'
Lily has in the past dealt with the tension by walking out, but that’s no longer an option now the couple are marrying. Not showing any sign of changing, Hank has instead offered this solution to Lily’s views: ‘I think sometimes, maybe, she should be handcuffed to the table.’
Now it remains to be seen if the warring family can sort out their problems.
